  • Temperament Therapy
Temperament Therapy is a theological counseling practice that is based on temperament theory. Temperament is an individual’s God-given, fundamental disposition that governs how he reacts and interacts with other people and situations. It is essentially how people respond to their surroundings. Temperament therapy assists in identifying the underlying causes of problems in order to facilitate healing and help you become the person God made you to be. It focuses on understanding yourself in order to achieve balance in your mind, body, and spirit.
  • The Arno Profile System
Nayo Cares is licensed by the National Christian Counseling Association to utilize the Arno Profile System. The Arno Profile System is a Bible and spiritually-based therapeutic method by which an individual’s mind, will, and emotions are analyzed and measured scientifically, on a personal level, for understanding and development of godly change. It is a spiritual compass that navigates each person in the right direction, revealing personal weaknesses and strengths that can bring glory to God.

The Five Temperaments

The five temperament classifications you fall into are defined by your basic instincts concerning three key areas: inclusion (your level of need to be around others), control (how dependent you are on others in your relationships), and addiction (the level of love you require from others). The five temperaments are:

Individuals with a melancholic temperament prefer solitude and crave control over their lives. While they may experience dark moods, it doesn’t mean perpetual unhappiness. They thrive with strong family support and benefit from learning communication skills. Melancholics prioritize tasks over relationships, but their skills can be invaluable. Without addressing perfectionism and communication issues, they may struggle with low self-esteem and misery.
The sanguine temperament is distinguished by optimism and ease in developing relationships with others. Sanguine people are typically popular and admired, but it is important to remember that no temperament is intrinsically superior. Each temperament has a purpose and might be problematic if not balanced. Sanguine people may ignore hazards and emphasize superficial relationships over deep ones, resulting in impulsivity and potential addiction problems. Learning self-control is essential for sanguine people who want to live productive lives and and permanent enjoyment.
Cholerics have a strong will and a sense of duty, making them powerful yet possibly dangerous. They are motivated and determined to attain their goals, frequently despite challenges. However, if not controlled, the choleric temperament can result in wrath, disharmony, and even brutality. This temperament has propelled tyrants such as Stalin and Mao, as well as great leaders and heroes, throughout history. Proper guidance, moral direction, and the authority of Jesus Christ are required to channel the choleric temperament towards favorable consequences.
The phlegmatic temperament is defined by passivity and a steady reaction to life’s ups and downs. While phlegmatic people are unlikely to commit wrongdoing, they may be slow to take good action. Their steadiness may be interpreted as a lack of motivation, making it difficult for them to establish relationships that demand proactive expressions of affection. However, with the right guidance and support, phlegmatic people can discover enjoyment and purpose in regular work that others may consider monotonous.
The supine temperament is characterized by submissiveness to others, contrasting with the phlegmatic temperament’s passive constancy. Supine individuals rely on others and are dedicated to pleasing them, making them valuable contributors to society. However, in unhealthy relationships, their inclination toward submission can lead to negative outcomes.
